Heaven

I sit in the sunlight working on a sermon,

Or a talk,

If you are more comfortable with that…

Hopefully not a lecture…

To be delivered this Sunday

From a pulpit,

or a podium if you are more comfortable with that…

.

Ah words!

The stories we tell were told long before they were written,

When words were few and time was long,

When sacred texts were written on leaves,

And rocks

In streams and with paw prints.

But heaven is still the same.

.

Sitting here on a blue sky of sofa

Surrounded by white fluffy clouds of canine,

Heaven is where it always is,

Right here.

Right now.

New

WHAT IS THAT?

Bright red and bouncy!

The littlest dog jumped,

First in fear,

Then in play…

The barks may seem the same to the untrained ear…

But the soft wagging tail told the tale of recovered joy!

.

Delight in the new!

Even if at first, it scares you.

Inflate

The sun shone bright over the

skins of holiday spirits

flowing over the neighbors lawn.

Rubber idols who only come to life in the dark,

When lights are lit to outline the roof peaks and the trees.

I feel like these friendly deflated fools,

My skin draped across the lawn of my body in puddles and folds…

Having released a hundred pounds,

I am still heavy yet oddly ungrounded…

What a force is gravity!

Then an orange cat appears in the middle of it all,

Glowing in the light of the daytime star…

“Silly woman!, ” He purrs,

Arise and inflate your soul!

You are a holiday spirit.”

Show your Self in the light of day!

Up in the air

The dishes flew into the air

Ringing like bells

As the small white dog leaped onto the table.

Miraculously

Nothing broke!

Black eyes blinked at me as her tail drooped,

I scooped her up into my arms

And took her to safety.

.

We all have days when we leap before we look,

Days when everything seems to be up in the air…

Be gentle with yourself and others,

Love never breaks

Even if dishes do.

Hungry Ghosts

You smiled at me from the top of the ladder…

Metaphors fail…

This one is a grey ghost,

One I am supposed to freeze to death in this tropical clime…

They out compete the native tree frogs that bless my life and sing me to sleep.

.

I, like the this frog, am an interloper on native lands…

.

How can i discern Your will,

When all is You,

And all is Love?

Lawn and Garden

“Lovely lawn.”

“Yes, delicious!”

A cow, a horse and a donkey met on a front lawn…

I wondered if the woman on the porch was the chef or the maitre d’hotel….

It really is lovely to be able to share a meal, together.

Blessed

Like blessings, there were too many egrets to count.

Oh Mary

She stood in the middle of the path,

All calico and pregnant.

Big green eyes,

Belly swollen with life.

It’s getting cold outside….

Oh refugee!

Do you need a sheltering Inn?

.

We all need a sanctuary every now and then,

We are all pregnant with possibilities.

Play

She flew through the air,

Feet barely touching the field, tail flying like a flag.

The others gave chase,

Then reversed,

Leader becoming the led.

.

This is what it means to be

Free.

The dogs had conquered gravity.

We just stood there,

grounded,

giggling at their levity!

Joy in motion is a tide that lifts all boats.
