Recycling

Found in the grass,

By the side of the path,

The disc trembling in Her jaw …

Oh what treasure is this?

.

I bent down and she pressed the new found prize

Into my hand –

more plastic trash,

Disposable…

Littered by the side of a

man made artery on the body of the mother already

Filled with capitalist cholesterol.

I shuddered as I accepted her gift.

.

Undaunted, she tilted her head,

And barked.

I looked at the yogurt lid

Proudly proclaiming its organic contents,

Not a word about itself…

She barked again…

You want this back?

Her tailed wagged.

Gently I tossed it-

She leapt with joy

And caught the disk with a single bound.

.

Even as we struggle to heal,

We must find the joy of the moment.

.

She returned

Bowing,

And I threw the circle into the air

Again and again.

Reduce, reuse, recycle,

Rejoice.

Watching Over

She looked down at me

From up in the tree

And I understood what it meant to be free.

Who who

It was night,

The stars were out,

I went outside to find something lost

And coming thru the darkness,

To a choir of owls,

Love walked into my arms.

Ben, the gentle

There He was, walking by the side of the road.

I saw Him before he saw me…

.

He turned around…

Our eyes met

And my heart melted.

I went to him,

He came to me.

softly wagging his tail

a ancient collar on with an old brass tag still attached

Gave me a name and a number.

.

(He had the biggest nose I had ever seen.

I wondered if he was part polar bear.)

The number dialed,

A voice answered.

Love returned again.

Always respect even the most temporary of romances…

They too help save the world.

Lace

Looking up at the black lace of dormancy

Against the brilliant blue

.

I see You.

.

Light and shade

Play across your face,

I hear you sing,

And long to join in…

Soft whistles escape my lips…

And I am reminded of a small plaque:

‘The kiss of the sun for pardon,

The song of the birds for mirth,

One is nearer God’s heart in a garden,

Than anywhere else on Earth.’

Branches rattle,

Wings beat

And You swoop low, past my feet…

Perhaps encouraging me to fly.

Upset

Jaw set

Upset

Fingers touch the dog’s head gingerly.

Jaw softens

Joy Remembered

Do not forget.

Reconnect.

Daze

It has been a long day,

I look up at the sun setting over the river as the sky fills with feathers and purpose.

Some have wingspans that carve the sky as they fly,

Some leave footprints on the earth..

All of us following the sun,

All of us resting under the stars.

Walk Softly

I felt a soft whisper on my arm,

A tiny spider was there,

Gently walking, meaning no harm.
