Howl

It is day break

But no rooster crows,

Instead I hear a sound new to the music of the morning waking up,

But not a happy one…

a dog is calling, crying…

My dog answers…

And I follow the response.

but no lost dog I find,

there two yards over in a brand new pen of fresh lumber and hog fencing

With a brand new dog house and a shiny new water bowl

Sits a golden colored trumpet of sadness.

No matter how beautiful you may build a prison,

None of us deserve to be alone behind fences,

Separated from our family.

Waiting

The puppy in the waiting room at the vet

Was old…

And patient,

He had done this before,

But that didn’t mean he liked it.

Sometimes we’ve got to wait for things we don’t really like.

Because no matter our age,

We are always someone’s baby.

Dragonfly fly by

On tiny dancer legs

With gossamer wings

Hope flitted in the air

Lighting

For a moment

On the possible.

Injured

I had no idea you were injured,

Scared and vulnerable,

You hid your soft wounded underbelly….

I understand,

Trust is harder than healing,

But both require the assistance of others.

There, there

He gently puts his head on knee

I look down

And see

Love in action.

Self care

Overwhelmed

We step into the garden

And find peace and fellowship in the shade.

Friday August 12th Homestead

Holding hearts on sticks,

And

Dogs on leashes,

Hot and tired,

Sitting and lying on mats,

Panting.

A dog jumps on the person beside me

Asking for relief.

“Oh! Sorry,

They didn’t get dinner before we came to the vigil…”

.

“Should they even be here?”‘

.

No,

But neither should the children in the tents behind the wall.

.

They should be in homes instead.

Time to go….

They say in order to lead

One must learn to follow,

But it is also important to know when to go,

Even if you might not know where you are going…

Treed

She was up into the sweet gum tree

Gazing into a world I could not see

from my grounded stance.

.

Whatever your vantage point,

View your world with love.

Hissing

It started on the patio,

It started on the lawn,

It started on the porch,

But it doesn’t ever really matter where it starts,

It matters that it stops.
