Wounds

The warrior licked his wounds in the sunlight.

Battle scarred, he wore his bravery casually,

While the kittens frolicked about chasing bugs.

Skipper

Who needs bridges? Not the Skipper of a schooner!

Sail on, my friend….you have navigated many a soul and many a sea,

Now is the time to let it be. Thank you for your service.

Bridges

When I first met her,

She was just a wee grll with a curl,

Dashing over the alps..

Flying thru the air from endless green meadow into brilliant blue sky …

Bowing to a fallen leaf…

She pounced.

Then as grown ups,

Well as much as either of ever would be,

We strolled in a city park…

Stopping to pee and ponder.

Today I  heard she crossed the rainbow bridge…

But I think she has been painting rainbows and bridges for us to follow all her life.

Step by step, we dance in the meadows of love.

reflecting Salvations

He

has the palest mask,

Like a secret super hero…

Like the memory of salvations from long ago longing…

Are you a saint?  Or simple halfway up the mountain…

.

Then again…

There are the freckles….

And all I can do is count them, like stars…

And make a wish.

Working dog

A working dog is of service to the world,

But only by invitation-

A service dog only works for one,

But is an inspiration.
Do not confuse the two,

for in the pursuit of life, liberty and happiness,

No one has the right to trample on any one else’s.

Longing and desire

What  you see as distress,

Is only longing…

What is the object of desire?

What do you long for?

These are the more important questions…

How can you not long for the renewal that the robin brings?

No matter the season.

Nestling

The squirrel climbed the tree

Carrying a bundle of grass,

Roots still entact.

Nesting? Gardening??

Looking for a home, or just decorating?

The squirrel descended the tree,

Still carrying the bundle of grass.

.

With all this talk of decluttering our lives,

Maybe we need to de- nest instead

And realize

The whole world is our home.

.
(Special thanks to Judy Hunt for the word de-nest)

Like water

Like water of a duck’s back,

Peace came,

Filled with giggles and joy and otters and mermaids.

Play!

The kitten

Wiggled his bottom

Ready to pounce.

“Not now,”

“I’m in the middle of a blessing.”

Her paws resting gently on the violin case…

“Me too, me too” he said.
However you do it, remember to play everyday.

Thin skinned

The unicorn wallowed in the cool mud,

Finding comfort on a hot day.

Many think they are well shielded, with tough hides and fierce countenance..

But in truth they, like rhinos, have very thin skins…

Thus they need protecting…..as do unicorns, and us.
