Pastoral

Are you a boy or a girl?

The miniature horse said nothing,

But continued to chew the remains of a flowering weed.

Are you

A boy or a girl?

The miniature horse said nothing,

their forelock filled with flowers.

.

Eat what you love,

Wear what you love.

You are Love.

Love has no gender.

Journaling the journey home

At the AIDS Memorial.

On the stone benches:

A little girl longs to play in the fountain.

A man with a dog on a leash reads a book.

A dog sits.

.

At the AIDS Memorial,

The words of Whitman circle the flat fountain

As it pours libations and tears.

I remember bringing a small spaniel into the wards of a hospital no longer there.

I weep and pour libations onto pages.

Journeying into the past and future,

Until I arrive at the present.

.

Here is good.

Princesses

They could have been named Mary and Martha,

But they are the princesses, Ariel and Winnifred…

“One because She wants to be where the people are,

And One because She is SHY”

Jet black and plush soft

As if one cat became two…

.

But isn’t that also true,

For me and You?

Joy seeds

The littlest bird

Trilled

To all who passed

Her…

But they were so often lost

In thought or conversation,

They could not see the seeds of Joy

that fell from Her beak.

Still

She kept on singing.

And the seeds were planted anyway.

Blessed

High in the mountains

The sky whale breached

Blessing All who sang below.

.

What is more fantastic,

That whales once walked the Earth,

Or that You do

Now?

Sometimes it is not enough to simply open the blinds,

Carry me

The French Bulldog

Spoke

With a decidedly Brooklyn accent.

Barely fitting into the boat bag his person was toting,

I watched them as we ran for the train.

Breathless,

Waiting on the platform,

Now

Pondering

All the ways we are carried

As we walk each other home.

Emotional support

Sitting

At the airport

Surrounded by Love.

At my feet,

A carrier is unzipped,

The contents are

Tethered as per the rules.

Soft snoozy sounds emit from green canvas,

Providing emotional support to all around.

Her person sits beside me,

Smiling.

No badges needed,

No false claims of being disabled.

Just fellow travelers flying each other home.

Luggage

I fit in the carry on!!

Yes you do,

And I wish I could take you,

But sometimes we have to carry those we love in our hearts

and not on our luggage.
