Thunder and Peace/ Shop Dog

We sat in the quilt shop

Sewing comfort

Out of pieces of our lives.

Thunder clapping

Punctuating our stories as we stitched.

She slept curled in the corner

Surrounded by calico bliss…

Outside the storm raged,

But inside,

All was Peace.

Beauty

The lights on the dash

Started to flash

The hood started to smoke

I slide onto the shoulder

Holding onto my head

In fear of it rolling off ….

And everything stopped

As the highway continued past,

Singing its fast arterial hum.

.

As I waited for rescue of a vehicular kind,

My soul took respite in the wild phlox

As they danced with Florida fritillaries.

There is always beauty.

Everywhere.
