A walk, a dog and a lake.

You may have heard this story, or maybe you”re in it……..

One fine day, A guy and his dog ( or at least a dog that he calls his, he never asked the dog if he was his human) go for a walk in the woods.

They come to a lake.

On the other side of the lake is another guy roasting dinner over a campfire.

“How do you get to the other side of the lake?” asks our hiker with the dog.

“You are on the other side of the lake!” proclaims the guy with the campfire.

The dog, smelling dinner, promptly jumps into the lake and handily paddles across.

“I can’t swim,” laments the guy who no longer is with the dog.

A leaf is blown into the lake and it floats. And the lake says – “Build a boat.”

“I don’t know how to build a boat.” whines the guy.

“Should I learn to swim or learn to build a boat” — so he sits down on a rock to ponder…or to pout…..

The dog happily eating dinner, wags his tail. But it goes unnoticed. Dinner being finished, and his belly being full, the dog goes for a walk around the shore and discovers the guy sitting on the rock. So he sits down beside him.

Morning comes and the guy with the campfire wakes up and sees the dog who ate his dinner on the other side of the lake.

“Hey, How do you get to the other side of the lake?” he asks the guy sitting on the rock beside the dog who ate his dinner.

“You are on the other side of the lake,” answers the guy with the dog.

Big Puddle

So when he first heard this story it was in a bar, and this guy says, “So this dumb blond sees another blond across a lake an asks – ‘How do I get to the other side?’, the other blonde answers, “You are on the other side.”

The blond sitting near these jokers rolls her eyes and decides to leave this watering hole. She goes outside and meets a dog. They go for a walk.

We are the story telling animal. What story do you want to tell.

Sacred Space

Sacred space, part one.

Black and white springer spaniel

Sacred space is safe space. A safe space is a place that you can explore what feels very scary: like being lost, like feeling like you are all alone, feeling abandoned or unloved. Be patient. Compassionate. Forgiving.

If you create sacred space for all species you share your home with, they will create sacred space for you. We train each other, daily.

Perhaps, you too, will know that you are never lost, alone or abandoned. You will know you are loved.

Homonym for a Sunday

Paws.

Why not feet?

I am told I need reminding to sit.

A sabbath moment where we pause is such a feat!

How easy it seems to the paws at my feet.

Hummingbird Hello

A hummingbird flew into our home. He flew in through the open door, circled the dining table, paused for a moment and flew out.

My son & I looked at each other. Joy was bursting around our smiles and eyes. The energy was magical, alive –  excited.  We had been visited,  blessed somehow.

Later I as I was sitting on the front porch I thought:

“Was that really a hummingbird?”

and as if in response, suddenly in front of my face, peering – hovering was a hummingbird. The same hummingbird? Does it matter?

Best Blessings.

The short story

The short story of my interfaith, interspiritual, interspecies journey

Reflections are often reversed,

responses are often rehearsed.

Is that why we fail to see God in Dog,

or Allah in All?

With your paw in my hand,

I look in the mirror of your eyes and see my own.

There is no time

There is no time like the present.

The dogs at my feet know this to be so.

I am still working on opening my gift.
