i open a drawer
in a forgotten chest
and find a nest.
no one lives here anymore –
but the remains of home linger –
long after the occupants have moved on.
i open a drawer
in a forgotten chest
and find a nest.
no one lives here anymore –
but the remains of home linger –
long after the occupants have moved on.
i see you under the bush, hiding…scared,
gently, i step back
and i watch You step out into the sunlight –
i see the cost of your freedom.
at some point all of us have been trapped –
may it remind us of how free we really are.
just because you want to play with things
doesn’t mean it’s safe to play with them.
Play responsibly
without labels.
The met on the edge of the roof,
(though some would say they met in the gutter)
and even though they did not speak the same language,
it was a moment of Grace.
in front of me is the meadow,
hundreds of tiny birds are in the grass…
i enter into the sunlight –
everything around me takes flight.
Somedays we are so focused on our reverie,
we fail to see the shadows that are right over our heads!
I stand
in a field of green looking up at a sky of blue –
thrilled by the sight of You
and then there are two
beautiful hawks soaring on the thermals –
coming closer and closer
until they are right over my head!
amazed and dazzled by their power i stand frozen in awe –
when something tugs at my heart, for just a second
out of the corner of my eye,
there in the grass is the small One.
She is chewing a bone.
In one swift motion i dive
scooping Her up into my aproned arm.
The feathered ones recede into the treeline.
and the shadows do too.
So the questions are these:
was it the bone that caught their eye – or the promise of fresher flesh?
and how often have i been dazzled by power and show
instead of by humble acts of salvation
and love?
above me cranes fly over my head,
reminding me
we all have own own flight plans
even if our destinies are the same.
