Clouds and dreams

In the sky of pale blue

A dog came racing thru

And morphed into a horse

To take me for a ride

While the little dog

By my side

Gently snored.

New Year’s morning

The night was filled with booms,

A barrage of ballistics

Kept humans awake

And made the dogs quake

Unnatural thunder reverberated into early morning

But when the light of dawn brightened the new day

All was silent.

……….

Do not mistake silence for peace,

Where was the sunrise choir?

………

Listen and silence may be spelled with the same letters…

And we tell this to children

To remind them they must be silent in order to listen…

But what does it mean to listen to the silence?

……..

Where are the birds?

Welcoming the New

The day turns into night

The year turns into a decade

Some resolve not to be involved

In resolutions

Some labor over lists

Longing to change their lives without consequences

……..

I have only one lesson/teaching/assignment/practice for the coming year,

Given to me by a sister, naturally dressed in black and white…

Greet everything with joy

……..

Practice radical hospitality

In all things

Give

Thanks

Round

Did you know

About round rings of dough?

Golden and sweet

Oh they are neat!

……..

I jumped on the table

In front of everyone

And this really nice lady

Picked me up and gave me one!

She called it a dough nut

But

They were nothing like nuts

They were round and sweet

Like wheel of the year

If you are brave enough to jump on a table

And leap into the arms of

Love.

Big whoop

Who knows what we see

When we see

The unseen?

……..

I saw You,

Your eye

Almost the same height as mine

Yet you could soar so much higher.

……

Was it a You?

Was it really You?

Territory

a jump

another

a hiss

a soft growl

Very slowly

they turned their backs to each other

And laid down

Seemingly unaware

they were all on the same table

Prompts

A pet crate sits open on the counter of the veterinarian’s office.

Endless stories pour out of me

And nestle in my brain

Stories

Of joy

Of grief

Of the possibility of a new family member

Of the loss of an old one

Of a rescue

Of a life saved

Of a life lost

Or maybe it’s just a donation of a crate

But the simple truth is

There is an open crate sitting on the counter.

And really, every moment is like that.

Tilt

She sat at the edge of the world,

Or maybe it was just the bed,

And with a slight turn of her head

Changed the axis of understanding .

Who really knows

Why

The earth turns round the sun?

Or why we Love

But it does and we do.

Love.

In the morning light

A song rises on the dew,

I look into the naked branches

And I see You.

Thank you.

Stirring

Not a creature was stirring?

They were dancing

Prancing over sequins and glue

The party in the studio was quite the hullabaloo

With little feets and long tails teasing

The Dogs who went in chasing

While the humans were stirring batches of cookies in the kitchen

And sharing stories of past holy days

To anyone who would listen.

So if you give a mouse a cookie…

We will all ways be grateful

For those who told the stories

And for those who paint them

For children of all ages

And people who have paws

Each and ever every one of us can be a

Sanity Claus.

…….

Have a blessed holiday,

However you celebrate.
