at the edge of the edge of the table

two big brown eyes peer into mine –

i feel right at home,

“welcome”, they seem to say —

“would you please, perhaps , accidentally, drop some food on the floor?”


i think what makes us feel welcome,

is not what some might call ‘good manners’,

but has everything to do with how we are greeting –

in friendship,

in possibility and hope.
