At the vet’s

it was small old dog day

this morning at the veterinarian’s offices.

the boy is no longer a boy;

the puppy is no longer a puppy.

one is a young man, the other,

having walked approximately the same turns of earth around the sun,

is old and almost done.

oreo in Josh's arms

we sit in the beginnings and endings of each others arms,

holding the embrace

to last eternity.

we still have time,

we have now.
