letting the ink flow
into rivulets like the topography of a map,
thus the heart is revealed.
.
Many paths – One Home.

.
the sudden discordant sounds of an organ,
the yowls and then the teeth,
gleaming white in the night!
what fright is this?
what horror?
just the cues of of clever cat who wants kibble,
and an electric keyboard left on.
think of it as a wake-up call –
not all who scare you, mean you harm,
sometimes they are simply hungry.
the opposite of Love is fear.
fear blocks all learning.
thus here
we sit…in the uncomfortable space
longing for Grace –
and the return of curiosity.
.
Patience.
Breathe.
Shape your world with kindness.
the biggest bluest dragonfly i have ever seen landed on the flower.
“wow,” i said,
“is there any room for anyone else?” i said laughing!
and a voice said, “Of course, silly!, all are welcome in the Garden!”
all the holy ones talk about a life of simplicity.
and thus we monks train daily for it.
simplicity –
that much discussed and misunderstood holy poverty…
which is in turn the state of non-attachment ……
.
in training the smallest dog,
just like in training myself –
i look to find what reinforces the desired behaviors,
what creates that cascade of chemicals in our brains…
and yet also lives in our hearts –
creating webs of complex connections –
communities of behaviors….
.
simple.
.
so i buy a can of easy cheese.
and the smallest of dogs is terrified of it.
.
nothing simple is ever easy.
desire,
love,
&
longing,
everything really is about belonging.
.
All are welcome at the Table.
COME.
SIT.
STAY.
The cats were tossing the dinosaur,
it skittered softly across the floor…
but wait……
someone new has come to play!
i turned to look and what did i see?
the felted catnip toy
being carried with joy
by someone who just learned the game.
sometimes you need to learn to play, sometimes we need kind folks to teach us how to play, sometimes we forget to play and need to be reminded, and sometimes we simply need to allow ourselves to play — yeah! what did you play today?
