Cuddle

Long ago, I knit an afghan of mohair and silk

Redder than red

For my mother

A womb of a hug for all the hugs she had given me

Now she is gone,

But the cycle of hugs remains.

……….

Today

a little white dog cuddled up in my lap,

Connecting cuddles across years

As she is hugged by yarns and stories of long ago.

Tiny blooms

The tiniest of yellow flowers

Hang from the slenderest of green stalks

Gently dancing.

The dog hunts lizards in the grass.

The sun

Shines.

Circled

One bored collie,

One bored terrier,

One bored tiny dog,

Encircle themselves around me.

Patiently

And I, their patient, was grateful.

When life gives you lemons…

I sit in the sun

Sipping lemon and ginger with honey

Surrounded by the scent of lemon blossoms

A bee comes

And sits on my thumb

I ponder

What does it mean to be indigenous to a place.

Face out

Today I sat with my face in the sun

A cardinal came out

And blessed everyone

And then came another

And two more

We all blessed each other as we turned toward the sun

Blessed

Opportunity/deceit

We want

We pine,

we conspire

Plan, hope, and plot

All to get what we haven’t got

Whether we really need it or not!

The little white dog

Danced at the door

Asking to go out

Or so it seemed

The little white dog saw the big black and white dog gnawed on a covered bone,

“Do you want to go outside?”

She danced and wiggled at the door,

The big dog, never one to refuse an open door

Dashed outside into the rain,

While the little white dog dashed into the rug and the bone.

We all collude in each other’s desires,

Pay attention.

You might simple

need to ask for a second bone.

There really is enough to go round.

Welcome bows

The tallest boy

With the littlest dog

Came home today

Only for a visit

Some laundry

A spot of lunch

And we all bowed in gratitude.

Clean

The little white dog

Went to the spa today

She came out

An explosion of clean

Complete with a magical glittery butterfly

On her fountain of forehead fur!

She danced all the way home

Do not underestimate the power of getting clean

Whatever it looks like for you.

Socks

The dog who loves socks

The dog who takes them out of laundry baskets

And tossed off shoes

The dog who

Usually wears white ones given by nature

today,

They chose black socks

Also made by nature.
