Bath time

once upon a time

a dog that was already not young

bit me as i bathed him.

he struggled

and growled

and twisted

and turned –

oreo in sink bath

the earth turned –

days

to years

and

an old dog lays down in warm water,

gently his old muscles relax

and stiff bones release a bit.

my hands once bitten

now trembling –

as i bite back the tears in my eyes.
