Flying home

the sea gulls

have been calling to me all day,

sea gull

calling me home

to

You.

(we all make do with what we find –
use it up,
wear it out,
make it do –
or do without –
is only the first layer of a sustainable economy)

Budding Leaves

the sun shines

on bright tiny new leaves

swaying in the breeze,

as the sweetgum wakes up  –

tree of many little birds

oh my morning stars!

they are tiny birds!

i am the one waking up.

relationships

i want to give you more

and i feel guilty that i do not…

poodle head

but that is not what you are asking.

and you have no intention of filling me with shame, nor do you understand guilt.

Love does not want our shame –

it only requires that we give and forgive,

again

and again.

home

a light rain falls

as i enter the home of worship –

no ceiling covers the altar,

the chalice is cradled in the branches of the budded acolyte’s arms…

the choir sings

and all is blessed.

flight paths

overhead the sky fills with hawks

i look up as the wings fill the sky

taking my breath away with the possibilities of flight.

Then, as i sit behind the fence,

feeling both secure and trapped,

a cardinal flies thru it –

as if there is no fence at all.

Stripes

as i child i was told

“it takes all ages and stripes”

and

“You can’t tell a tiger to change his stripes” –

not to mention somehow i needed to

“earn my stripes”

but no one ever said,

“there will be stripes sleeping at your door.”

racoon catQuite independent of all idioms,

he cares neither to change his stripes,

nor if they are earned or unearned.

Yet, he changes daily,

understanding it takes all ages and all stripes

and a moment of grace under an eave in the rain

to awaken when the sun comes out.

Wind and rain

The sky is gray.

Light rain dusts us as we walk.

Gentle winds make music of chime and branch

and the owl calls from her nest.

All is tone.

Knowing

Do you ever have that moment

 when you realize

that someone you love

really doesn’t understand you at all?

cat licking bowl

“Yes, daily”,

she said, as she looked up,

taking a pause from licking the leftover soup from my bowl.

“It’s ok, though, you don’t have to understand to love.”
