road work

they are going to be tearing up the road in front of my house,

the work is expected to last a year

or so the flyer that was in my mailbox tells me.

little orange flags prance along the path

like pennants on the staffs of a tiny army.

This is the battle field of progress.

AH! perhaps i can get some clusters from the giant clump of bamboo across the way,

and as i day dream about a privacy screen,

in the shadows i see

it is home to another family.

i think they will have to move.

Meridian Moments

I exit the interstate in a tight circle,

having gone from four lanes of 70 mile and hour zooms

to a 30 mile an hour single file caravan of seekers

looping

around a small pond

and a flock of egrets

and a crane or two

who pay the chaos of the whirl no mind.

three cranes grazing

thanks guys for the reminder!

New!

oh wait?!

What is THAT?

what IS that?

Curiosity and fear

live very near

to each other…..

pim opened eyed

Yet each one can bring healing and hope,

or despair and heartache.

chose wisely and help others to do the same.

Rock, Paper, Scissors?

Rock, Paper, Scissors?

Win, Loose, or Draw?

Each day offers choices.

When you run out of what you expect to find –

Look Again.

Puur-haps a friend can show you another way to win –

You never loose, you can always draw –

even if you don’t have any paper!

(and learn.)

Prayer

“Does he pray?”

asked the young woman as she looked at the poodle.

i have no answer…

“He certainly begs!” i reply as he eyes the cookie in her hand.

poodle do you pray?

“oh.

i meant the trick,

you know,

where the dog puts his paws on the chair or table and then bows his head.”

“no.

he doesn’t know how to do that.”

and so we start to teach him.

with the cookie from her hand.

but learning to  bow your head as if your are in prayer

is not the same as praying.

and begging is not the same as praying,

although it often gets confused.

i can not say if someone else prays,

but i do know if they say thank You.

freedom

what looks like captivity

might give you freedom.

leash

and what you think is freedom

may only be a cage you can not see.

pulling weeds

weeds the size of trees had grown up between us,

the door was almost completely blocked.

so they had to go.. weeds were pulled,

heavy lopers cut the trucks of the ones too long forgotten.

it was hard painful work –

exhausted and sweaty, he paused….

and in that moment two tiny frogs –

one no bigger than your littlest toenail appeared.

The air cleared.

and the door was again open.
